Your observations should be the following:

If an object contains a mirror plane, then it is achiral.

If an object contains a center of inversion, then it is achiral.
These generalizations are correct, though the way of obtaining them
is not very convincing. A better (general) method to arrive at these
conclusions would be to consider the diagrams given for a mirror plane
and a center of inversion in the preceding chapter, to construct their
mirror images, and to realize that these are identical.
