\centerline{\bf PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME}

\bigskip

Much of the liveliest
work in combinatorics today is inspired by interactions with other
parts of mathematics and with computer science, as will be
reflected at this conference. The emphasis will be on
the following areas within combinatorics, highlighting exciting recent developments:

\smallskip

$\bullet$ Enumeration and Groups

$\bullet$ Geometric Combinatorics

$\bullet$ Codes, Designs and Finite Geometry

$\bullet$ Linear-Algebraic and Probabilistic Methods

\bigskip

{\bf Confirmed Speakers:}

{\bf Dates and Location:} Eden Roc Hotel at San Feliu de Guixols, Spain
(on the coast a little north of Barcelona). Buses will be arranged
from Barcelona airport.
Arrival is intended for Saturday afternoon September 27 and departure
after lunch on Thursday October 2. An excursion in this interesting region
of Catalonia will be organized one afternoon.

\bigskip

{\bf Poster Sessions:} There will be one or two poster sessions,
where contributed papers can be displayed and communicated. If you wish
to submit a paper for consideration for the poster sessions please
include an abstract of at most one page with your application to the
European Science Foundation. The deadline is {\bf May 1, 1997}, and
authors will be notified about acceptance/rejection in June 1997.

\bigskip

{\bf Grants:} There are grants available for young researchers from EU
countries (defined as age 35 or less for men and 40 or less for women).
Contact the ESF for detailed information. The application form includes the
grant application questionnaire.
