General information

Prague is one	of the most	interesting cities of the world (with a
population of roughly 1,3 million). Its magical atmosphere has been shaped over
ten centuries. Places of the greatest tourist interest are on the Royal
Route running from the	Powder Tower through Celetna Street to Old Town
Square, then across Charles Bridge through the	Lesser Town up to the Hrad{cany
Castle. One should not miss the Jewish Town, the National Gallery with
its fine collection of Czech Gothic art, representative collections of old
European art, and a beautiful collection of French art assembled with exquisite
taste. At the beginning of July the temperature in Prague can range from 15
centigrades to 30 centigrades during the day and from 8 centigrades to 20
centigrades during the night. Prague is also known for its rich cultural life.
Upon request,	we will try to help the participants to get tickets for opera,
concerts, exhibitions and other events that would take place at the same time
as the symposium.

The currency unit in the Czech Republic is the Czech koruna (CZK).
The current exchange rate is approximately 1 US$ = 34 CZK, 1 DEM = 18 CZK.

Location

The Symposium will take place at the campus of the Czech University of
Agriculture in Suchdol (Kamycka street 129,	16521 Prague 6), which is
located in the northern part of Prague. The campus is easily accessible from
the airport, railway stations and the city center. The expected price of a taxi
from the airport is 600 CZK. A cheaper way is to take bus No.119 or the airport
limousine from the airport to subway stop DEJVICKA (line A) and then bus No. 107
or 147 to the stop "Zemedelska univerzita" (bus ride approx. 15 minutes).
Detailed transport instructions will be posted on our web page in the last weeks
before the conference. For those coming by car, we will arrange parking permits
on the campus. Please, beware that parking in downtown Prague is very difficult
and costly.

The lecture halls and Internet connection during the meeting will be
provided by courtesy of the Faculty of Farm Economics and Management, Czech
University of Agriculture. The lecture halls will be equipped with overhead
projectors and blackboards.

The registration desk on the campus will be open Monday July 6 from 1 pm to 8
pm and Tuesday July 7 from 8 am to 2 pm.

Accommodation

The participants will be accommodated in (good quality) student
dormitories of the Czech University	of Agriculture	in Suchdol, which
operate as summer hotels during the summer break. A typical twin unit
consists of two double rooms and a bathroom.

The price for the 6 night package (July 6-12, 1998) is
3100 CZK (or 90 US$) for double occupancy,
5200 CZK (or 150 US$) for single occupancy (rates per person).
Meals for all participants will be	arranged on the campus in a good
quality cafeteria, starting	on July 7 with breakfast and ending with
breakfast on July 12.

The campus offers	possibilities	of sporting activities - an indoor
swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts and a field track.

Apart from the accommodation on the campus	we have reserved a limited
number of rooms in the hotel Wienna (walking distance from the campus). The
prices are 2200 CZK (or 65 US$) per night in single rooms, 3000 CZK (or 90
US$) per night for double rooms (rates per room).

A higher category hotel for the conference is Holiday Inn located cca 5 km from
the campus (about 10 minutes by bus or taxi). The prices are 169 US$ for single
room, 176 US$ for double room per night (rates per room). These are also the
typical prices for other downtown hotels.

Participants interested in accommodation in one of these two recommended
hotels should contact the conference secretary Mrs. Anna Kotesovcova at
kote@login.cz as soon as possible. Accommodation before and after the
conference both in the dorms and in the hotels is possible upon request.

Social Program

All registered participants and accompanying persons are invited to take part
in the Bernard Welcome Party (campus, Monday, July 6, 6 pm), and Symposium
